Joining in on the yarn along
Small Things with although I don't have much to write about! I've been busy making jam and playing with the kiddos around here. Yesterday we ventured into the sprinkler and water table which turned into a total mud bath since there has been so much rain this month! The kids adored it though! On Sunday I had Mother's Day all over again. Brian and Maddie gave me a knitting class at the local yarn shop. It was about double knitting. It was a tad confusing but I think I got it. I did make some mistakes so will be ripping out and trying again. A lady across the table from me was a bit out of her depth I think as much more than just double knitting needed explanation. She got so wrapped up in trying to do it that she started saying the pattern out loud at the top of her voice. I doubt she realized the effect she was having on everyone else trying to stay on track. I went from annoyed to realizing how funny the situation was rather quickly and just plugged along as best I could! When I have some quiet moments I'll pull it out and try again.
Here is what I did accomplish! Isn't that neat? Mirror images of the pattern and a double thickness of the fabric. I think this would be great for a hat or mittens.
On Saturday we spent the afternoon making jam. This has turned into a family project in recent years so I had to wait for Maddie to be done with dance before I could start! We picked 12 quarts of strawberries on Friday night and used 11 quarts for the jam making. We ended up with 27 jars of strawberry and 17 1/2 of strawberry-banana with little bits of both leftover. Yum. Jam for the year-check it off the list.

What have you been up to??
Wow. Very impressive. I think I would be like the other lady (the one with the voice) at the table. Now jam... that's more up my alley. :)

I'm no expert at this double knitting, its confusing! But I was telling myself in my head what I had to do, the woman next to me was muttering under her breath. I think talking to yourself is for sure part of that knitting! :0)
Deletehow great ~ homemade jam is the best! love the new knitting you are learning; it's depth is in it's reversibility; very nice.
ReplyDeleteA knit-night friend made himself extra long DPN just for double knitting. He's working on a scarf with a TARDIS (from Dr. Who) on it right now.
