due to a sudden and severe thunderstorm. The river is far away but the drains just couldn't keep up.
This was the case all over the village at that moment in time and all over the county as well. The end result was the parade was cancelled for the first time that I can recall. We were left with several kiddos with very long faces. Someone had brought fruit and cool whip dip so they drowned their sorrows in that for snack! The weather for the rest of the week continued exactly like this without the lake forming in the street thought!
Overall it was a very busy week. On Tuesday night we participated in a homeschool book sale. It was well attended and we sold several books. I had accumulated our materials over the past 5 years but it was nothing compared to the people around us! We had fun and I helped some new to homeschooling people out a bit which was nice.
On Thursday and into Friday I started coming down with a bad head cold. Its the first time in quite a while one of the kids "shared" with me so I guess I can't complain too much. At least in the cold and the wet it was easy to snuggle under a Mamaw Mary made quilt and read my book! Brian used the long weekend to put in a new kitchen floor. He did a wonderful job!
Before!
End of Day 1
After!
Today dawned bright and beautiful. I was still not quite up to a whole lot but needed to do my usual housework and get ready for the day care kids coming tomorrow. Brian was finishing up the floor. Maddie was at loose ends for a bit! She was so happy to be outside again after all the wet cold rain but she kept wanting us to play. I told her I would help put her tent up if she would like it and the dolls could come join her. That kept her busy for the rest of the afternoon then she found her book (she is reading the 39 Clues Series). That tent has got to be the best purchase we've ever made for her. I think we got it when she was 3 and she loves playing in it still. The dolls have their own tent and Maddie brought out other things for them as well.
I had my state inspection of the day care on Friday and was given the OK to turn the swingset into a playhouse. We can no longer use the swingset because the regulations changed....we would have to put mulch 6" deep 6' out from the furthest point. It would end up costing more than the swingset did so I refuse to do it. So our next day care project is to remove the swings and put a tarp over the existing frame to make a tent. Then we plan on cutting windows out and using duct tape to decorate the outside. "The Chick's Clubhouse" I'm looking forward to the sun and warmth this week!!
and I thought we've had a lot of rain recently... Oh my! Hope it's gone down. How nice to have a new floor in your kitchen! Hope you're feeling better. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! I am on the mend and the flooding went down that night thankfully! It was not a repeat of hurricane Irene where so many of our neighbors were hit so hard!
