Melting on vacation

This is our vacation week. Our plans have changed a couple times but we did manage finally to fit in the Great Escape and camping. Maddie earned tickets to the Great Escape for herself and her "teacher" aka Momma this winter.
First ride of choice....the Screaming Eagles! It goes around in a circle then you can move yourself with a handle attached to the front piece.

Then we hit the swings....

and the small western town before heading to......

 Ghosttown!!

And then, drum roll, Norah and her family came to join us!

I can't begin to tell you how much water, lemonade and iced tea we drank. It was in the 90s and really humid. This turned out to be the theme for the next few days. After that we moved on to camping!

While Bri and I set up camp, Maddie was busy exploring!

Mushrooms were everywhere just like the Battlefield. Maddie took this picture of a cool one!
A nearby stream that emptied into Fourth Lake. Maddie spent a lot of time here!

 Watching frogs!

 swimming!!!

Hmmm, gee I wonder why she is tired?? All that activity and boy, was it hot! The small general store near the campsite had copies of the weather report for Lake Luzerne and Ft.Lauderdale, FL. Lake Luzerne was hotter and more humid!

We did really well with dinners. We had lots of momma made things like granola, granola bars and burritos and fresh fruit and veggies but our last night we threw it all out the window for smoked sausage and Kraft Mac N Cheese!

This morning we packed up to go but made a stop by the stream on our way out. I think this was easily Maddie's favorite spot in the whole campground.

We saw so many fun things and pretty things....here are some pictures...

I can't remember seeing dragonflies with black wings before. These were beautiful!

Can you find the horse? The campground had a whole section for horses!

We were trying to decide if humans or animals did this!

When we had some downtime I was digging through the bags and started laughing at all the books we had along! We had 12 total including field guides. I added in my knitting and Maddie's junior naturalist workbook because it was yarn along day! Too bad it was so hot...we weren't much in the mood for reading and not at all in the mood for knitting!

Maddie and I did take some time to add things to nature journals and Maddie was working hard on her workbook. She wanted her new patch! We had to go get it the minute she finished the booklet.

When we checked out the girl at the booth wanted to give Maddie her patch but I explained we already had it. I told her Maddie's current career goal is to be a ranger. She immediately dug around in a box and came up with another activity booklet and patch. Maddie is now working on that so she can have a moose patch! While we were very hot, uncomfortably so, most of the time we had a great time and lots of fun!
