The Pink Penny Closes and other things

The Pink Penny closed at the beginning of the week. Maddie had a wonderful time buying items and using her cash register (which is, of course, pink!). We organzied the items like a grocery store and then priced everything (not the same as a grocery store!!) and then practiced writing receipts and adding the cost of 2 items. Maddie did a great job and picked up on it right away. No one will get past her with dimes and pennies at this point!! Quarters, nickes and dollar bills...well.....

We have been doing a lot of reading together. She is getting better every day. Most of the time we take turns reading the story, I read a page then she reads a page. We are also reading the American Girl stories about Samantha and Felicity. She is excited about the one we are currently reading called Samantha Saves the Day. It takes place in the Adirondacks. We are also reading The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor which we are enjoying and Brian too!! Another current faorite is The Magic School Bus inside the Human Body since we have started our Human Body unit in Science. On Friday I was so excited! Maddie went over to the bookshelf, picked out Pigs make me Sneeze then read it all on her own without any encouragement from me!! Yea!

On Friday we attended Mamaw Louise's retirement party. Maddie loved being at a party just for one of her grandparents and made instant friend's with Katie, one of Louise's co-workers. They danced and danced. She was paid the high compliment of being "as much fun as Karen" and Maddie asked "Can Katie come to our house to play?". A lot of fun was had by all!

Playing office at the set up of Mamaw Louise's desk

On Saturday Poppa Bill and Mamaw Mary stopped by with a hand me down desk for Maddie. I plan on putting this in the attic once I manage to get things organized up there! That will give her a place to be while I am sewing and, hopefully, later on a place to study away from the toddlers that will be in our house! I can attest to being able to hear very little when you are up there so she should be able to concentrate on Shakespeare, Algebra, Biology or whatever. For now she is having a marvelous time playing office!
