Happy Noon Year 2009

On December 31, 2009 Maddie and I went to CMOST for the Noon Year Celebration. We met our friends, Joah, Nicole and Declan, there too and we had a great time...a noisy, crowded time but fun all the same. Maddie made a weather report and did a scavenger hunt. We saw lots of snakes, lizards and bugs. Then when it got close to noon time the museum did a countdown over their loudspeaker and had a parade of kids through the museum. Maddie just became aware this year of the concept of the new year arriving at midnight and really wanted to stay up for it. I knew this was never going to happen, I can barely make it up that late!! So the idea of celebrating the "Noon Year" took care of that problem for us both. Enjoy the videos!!

Here is Maddie and Declan checking out the tidal pool which is currently empty except for rocks, sea glass and a rubber starfish! There was a sign that said the animals had temporarily been moved to other exhibits so hopefully this will be back soon!

This is a bit hard to see but it was soooo cool! After the noon year parade the bubble station people had boxes of dry ice. They talked a bit about what dry ice is (carbon dioxide) then put pieces of it into the bubble solution! The result was frothing bubbles! The kids were allowed to put their fingers in the bubbles on the table and Maddie said they were cold.
