Apple Blossoms!!

Maddie has been working on her nature journal. We read in our favorite big nature study book about trees in winter. One of the suggestions was to cut a branch from a flowering tree and "force" the blossoms to bloom inside. We went out to the apple tree and cut a branch off and have been waiting for about 3 weeks now. The buds did open and we have leaves. I think we should have flowers soon.

The best part of this experiment has been the kids watching what will happen. We examined it closely before they started opening and found where the buds and blossoms had been the year before. The kids are so used to these things going on that none of them question why I had a stick in a vase on the table! Maddie painted along with the day care kids this week. They painted triangles but Maddie painted the apple blossoms and had a wonderful time.

This is a bit awkward but I couldn't move it without disrupting many busy artistic hands!

The weekend coming up is going to be a very busy one here. Maddie has 4H Public Presentations on Saturday morning followed by a 4 hour rehearsal for the Gym Show on Saturday afternoon. Sunday she will spend the entire day with Mrs.Merritt rehearsing and presenting the Gym Show. We only have 2 activities and both managed to land on the same weekend! We've been working on getting her presentation up to snuff this week. We are having some trouble getting it to be long enough. She has to speak for at least 9 minutes but we are getting there! Maddie chose to demonstrate how to make and keep a nature journal.

Practice makes perfect!

We'll check in when the weekend is done!! Hopefully we make it through everything with flying colors.
