I decided to participate in the Yarn Along with Small Things today. This week I continued to work on Maddie's sweater. I'm now on the front although it looks just like the picture I posted of the back a few weeks ago! Its from an 1970s Woman's Day Knitting magazine and a pattern my mother made for me several times over when I was a child. I am using Vanna's Choice yarn from Lion brand. Its is soft and wears like iron...perfect for my 9 year old ranger in training!
I am reading the Well Trained Mind to prepare for next year, 5th grade. I am still in a bit of shock over that but am coming to terms! Next year will be a big year as we change from the "grammar stage" to the "logic stage". I think in reading about this that Maddie, as usual, is a bit ahead and we've been in the "logic stage" for the last 6 months or so. A lot of question asking...well, more pointed questions, and needing to be specific about things. When I read The Well Trained Mind my Rainbow Resource Center catalog is always in hand too. I like to read their reviews of products The Well Trained Mind recommends so there is a lot of flipping back and forth between the book and catalog! Brian is also reading The Well Trained Mind being the good principal Dad that he is!
I also finished up Maddie's fingerless gloves from last week. And we finished The Hobbit as well. Maddie has led the day care chicks in playing Hobbits in the backyard. Since they all are a bunch of hobbits who like to be warm, snug and well fed with second or possibly third breakfast it makes perfect sense. We took this picture. Maddie has her gloves on, Emily American Girl doll has her pair on that I made and I have my pair. All were finished this week in hope of spring. Then we woke up to a couple inches of wet snow this morning! Ah well, we will keep hoping!
Your mitts for her American Girl doll are SO CUTE! I hadn't thought about that- I may have to try it. Also, I have The Well Trained Mind on my bookshelf as well. I have borrowed a lot from it in homeschooling, although I'm not decided if I'll continue on in the classical method when my kids are ready for the logic stage. I enjoyed visiting your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! We love the classical method! It can be a challenge with 5 other kids not my own in tow but its working so far! I found the pattern for the mitts on Ravelry here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ribbed-fingerless-mitts---fits-american-girl-18-inch-dolls I made them in an evening. Enjoy!
DeleteLovely colour for the sweater.
ReplyDeleteCute picture of your mittened hands.
Enjoy your reading.
