Maddie has been doing a great job with reading this summer. She is participating in many reading programs like the
Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge , the summer reading program at the library and summer reading programs at both Borders and Barnes & Noble. She actually completed the one from Borders and was rewarded from them with a free book (off a list of course). Maddie chose Romona Quimby, Age 8. So what has Maddie been reading on her own to earn all these fun things (awards on the computer, a bouncy ball and free book from the library)? Maddie has read Bad Kitty gets a bath by Nick Bruel and is currently working on
Happy Birthday Bad Kitty!
As you can see Bad Kitty is not really the nicest of pets which, of course, makes for very funny reading. She has also been reading the books in the Mercy Watson series. All Mercy wants out of life is buttered toast, a nap and a good chase. Together we have been reading the
Time Warp Trio. These are very similar to the Magic Treehouse but with a lot of humor. In the last one they ended up in the Mongolian desert with Marco Polo. They had warped from the swimming pool (playing Marco Polo) so all they had on were bathing suits. Let your imagination go there!! We just finished Beezus and Ramona and are now working on Ramona the Pest. Last night we start The Odyssey This is an illustrated copy for children. We will see how far we get. Maddie didn't want to read it over the winter so I waited a bit. Its part of her first grade reading for the Ancients. Brian and Maddie have read almost all the books in the Captain Underpants series and are waiting for the a new book by the same author coming out in August. These are not mom's idea of good reading at all so its a good thing Maddie has her Dad to help her out. They have also been reading SpaceHeadz which I have been listening in on and is quite funny! So that is our reading list at the moment!! We're off to read some now in fact.....
