First Day of Third Grade!

Last night I got the workboxes filled then moved on to getting things ready to make the morning special. I made a schultuete and filled it with a bunch of fun school supplies like a pink sparkly high heel shoe pencil sharpener and glitter crayons. I got the idea from here. This is a German tradition. I also had fun making small backpacks and putting two "notebooks" and stickers in them for Felicity and Samantha. They often "do school" on the floor next to us.

I found this print out from the Happy Home Fairy to welcome Maddie to third grade.

We also had a new "What a doll" dress for Maddie and the dollies so they can match. And had a yummy breakfast of Easy Cheese Danish which is way too easy both to make and eat! Brian brought home strawberries and raspberries from the farm stand to go with it. Maddie loved it all!

After breakfast we went to drop off Maddie's 4H projects at the fair. She had 4 projects this year and did a really good job on everything. Here she is with her main, big project.

Maddie made paper and then put it to different uses. It was a lot of fun! Dropping it off took a while because the girl in front of Maddie was very, very, very busy all year and had a box of things to show.

After we got home Maddie changed into her new dress and got busy!

I was very proud of her today. She buckled right in and got busy with her work. We are really going to enjoy many of the subjects this year I think! The history is becoming more recent(1600s-1800s may not sound recent but it is to us!), the reading list has lots of good books, Geography includes a unit on Lewis & Clark and chemistry is tons of fun. In fact we ended the day with the first Chemistry lesson. Maddie was getting tired and having trouble staying focused but we worked through the reading and definitions of a molecule and atom then came the fun! We put milk, cream, sugar and vanilla in a bag then shook the bag inside another filled with ice.

The shaking got a bit old pretty fast as you can see!! But in the end it was worth it....

to get the ICE CREAM!!! It was a nice end to a good day!
