Getting Ready for Easter

Maddie had a rough week. Samantha disappeared while we were at church on Sunday. Many searches were made, we hung up a sign asking if anyone saw the doll and then we waited anxiously. On Thursday night we went to church for a Seder dinner and Tenebrae service. Maddie and I walked around the back of the church looking under bushes to see if perhaps Samantha had landed out there with no luck. After we took our coats off I asked Maddie to walk up to the choir practice room just one more time to see if Samantha had reappeared. We stood there a moment, let the momma genes go to work and sure enough we found Samantha under a table with a floor length table cloth. Yay! Phew.

Then we moved on to dinner with many other people from church. Seder is a ritual dinner that Jesus ate with the disciples to celebrate Passover right before his death. We had a pamphlet to help us along with the dinner and Maddie, being the second youngest, had a part to play! There are 4 questions asked by the children during the dinner. Maddie's friend Katherine asked 2 then Maddie asked 2.

Tonight, Friday, we moved on to egg dying. Since we have turned into science central lately we decided to give "natural" dyes a try. Similar to what Mary and Laura may have used. We boiled red cabbage, tea bags and blueberries with water and vinegar. What a waste of good blueberries.

We now have to wait overnight to see how they come out. We have the old standby PAAS kit waiting in the wings in case we don't like them or we "need" more colors. It was work but also fun!

Maddie has been having fun lately that has not made it into the blog! In the spurt of warm weather we did have she started a rock crushing project. She used a bigger rock to smash smaller rocks so she could examine the inside. We have some rock dust and small rocks that she wants to look at under the microscope. She did get up to this on her own. Brian had shown her that bigger rocks could crush smaller ones last year. My only rules were that she had to have shoes on and sunglasses or goggles to protect her eyes.

On a recent friday morning library trip Maddie found a lot of good books at the library and the day care kids were just not in the mood to let her read. Maddie took matters into her own hands.

We are looking forward to seeing our eggs in the morning! Easter pictures coming soon!!
