History Fun

Last week Maddie read about the Hundred Years War for history. The chapter included a bit about King Henry V of England and the French Prince or Dauphin. The Dauphin sent Henry a bunch of tennis balls with a note that told him to stop acting like a child and threatening France. Go play some tennis to burn off the excess energy. King Henry V didn't take that advice too kindly and responded that he would knock the crown off the head of the King of France with the tennis balls. That story is right up any kid's alley and was a pleasant relief from the plague and Joan of Arc. So today, after we had finally drank enough soda we bowled the Dauphin. We played with our day care buddies and everyone had a lot of fun!
The set up!

Do you love this outfit? One pant leg up and the other down. I've no idea why!!

Maddie decorated the cans with pictures of crowns she drew.

This week we read about the War of the Roses. I should say Brian read it to Maddie and both of them were confused. Brian asked if an adult couldn't keep it straight how could a kid keep it straight. My response was as long as she gets the idea of it...2 families fighting for power and fighting and fighting yet again that was all that mattered for now. It is confusing though!

Tonight once we had some free time Maddie and I worked on her trifold display for her presentation on saturday. She will be telling the story of Sir.Gawain and the Loathly Lady. This is a 4H activity. Maddie is doing very well and we will keep practicing this week so she will be "spot on" on saturday.

We had fun on Sunday at the kids table at the Schenectady Greenmarket making pinwheels as a 4H project. Then we went home and picked Brian up for the Dawn Treader at the Scotia Movie theater. Maddie and I had already read the book and were excited to see the movie. Maddie was so cute! She was so wrapped up in the story that she forgot where she was and when everyone in the movie was shouting "For Narnia!" so was Maddie in the theater. Later on when Edmund sees the White Witch Maddie yelled "Oh, oh, Don't do it Edmund!". Very fun although I'm not too sure the other people in the theater enjoyed it!!
