Fun Family Saturday
We had a very fun day today! It was Heritage Day in celebration of Schenectady's Bicentennial. We picked up a "passport" from the library and went to 3 different stops to get it stamped. Maddie and I have planned a trip to the Schenectady County Historical Society for one more stamp then we can send in our passport to see if we can win some movie tickets or a hat or a pin. We started off at our little Scotia Library which is the Abraham Glen house. There we met Goodwife Mary (I think that was her name!) and she showed us several items they would've used around 1776 and a little later. Brian did an excellent job of guessing what some of the odder looking things were including a tree branch they used as a whisk. Maddie astounded the Goodwife by asking if they used the "whisk" to make hoecakes. Guess our trip to Sturbridge paid off! Then we went to Jay St. in downtown Schenectady for a Kids Arts Festival. Here Maddie made several items and bounced in the bounce house. After that we headed to the Mabee Farm and caught the tail end of a fight supposed to take place during the French and Indian War, saw lots of people in Colonial outfits and watched a Punch and Judy puppet show. We ended the day with a good dinner on the front porch watching the cars go by. We noticed earlier in the week that the sparrows have made a nest under the covering for the cable wires. Tonight Maddie decided they were probably watching a tv show called "The top 10 ways to escape a cat", Brian chimed in and said that was broadcast on NBC, the National Bird Channel then Maddie said there was also the "Reguritation Channel" for the momma birds. So with that tid bit of Maddie's excellent imagination and science knowledge I say "Good Night"!
