Ordinal Numbers

Today's math lesson was ordinal numbers to the 20th position. Sometimes our teacher's manual is a bit of a challenge! We bought it used and when it arrived it was for a classroom teacher not homeschool. Maddie loves it because she is the "Student of the Day" every day! However today the manual directed me to hand out cards with ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd) up to 20th and then have the children line up according to the number they were given. Fortunately I read this ahead of time and came up with an alternate plan. On her note with the morning meeting information I asked her to round up 20 Lego Minifigures, playmobil people and/or little people. Maddie was able to come up with 22 minifigures! I had no idea we had so many. During the actual lesson we laid all the cards out in order from 1st to 20th then I told Maddie an ordinal number and asked her to place a minifigure on it. Maddie did very well and had quite a few giggles over it all.

So, we ended up with a fun math lesson and learned something too!!

The first snow arrived this week. Maddie was out in it for hours and loved every second. The same day she went with Poppa Bill to CMOST for a homeschool lab about the stars. She had a great time and came home full of tales of turtles and snakes as well as her star projects. The week ahead is going to be a full one! We are attending a party on Sunday (which is why we were "doing school" on a friday). Wednesday is the American Girl club. Thursday is our next Williamsburg Field Trip about the War of 1812 and a
4H Meeting in the evening. Lots going on in the Westervelt house!
