Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas. Maddie and I finished up school about a week before Christmas. Here is some of the baking Maddie and I did together.

Sprinkles are Maddie's job. I had to move the cookies to another tray for baking when she was done or we would've had melted sugar and burnt cookies!

On Christmas Eve day we make cinnamon rolls and deliver them as gifts to our minster's family and sunday school teachers. Maddie and I started this last year and we have such a good time doing this together!

On Christmas Eve we went to the early church service. Maddie sang Go Tell It On the Mountain with the children's choir. She loves to be part of the choir. We also helped to pass the light from the Christ candle when it came to that part of the service. I handed the large candle to Maddie with some trepidation but she did a wonderful job. No mishaps at all and I only had to hold her hand upright a couple of times. Its really hard to remember that you are not tipping your lighted candle to the candle needing to be lit. As you can see she was thrilled that it was Christmas. We decided to put the flower girl dress into action again.

I should add that Maddie is waving madly to Micah, one of our day care children who also attends the First Reformed Church.

Believe it or not we slept until 7:30 on Christmas morning! Brian and I had to wake Maddie up but once awake she was excited and ready to go! Here is our trip downstairs.

Maddie and I had a vacation week following Christmas and spent a lot of it snuggled up reading, watching movies and playing with her new toys. Legos are a new big hit with Maddie. She was so excited to put one of the new sets together all by herself that we took some pictures.

On New Year's Day we had dinner at Poppa Bill and Mamaw Mary's house. Maddie brought along her Native American Unit study to show off and to do some research on the Navajo. She also had a piece of Mamaw Mary's homemade cheesecake and a heaping amount of sugar in her peppermint tea (sugar added by Maddie at twice the amount Momma said was OK!). This all led to many raids made by Maddie in her Native American outfit created from items found in the house. First she attacked Daddy...

Then she made some sneak attack plans....

I'm not exactly sure what the lantern was for....night attack maybe? Mostly I think she likes to use Poppa's lantern!
Then she made several attacks on Mamaw and Poppa

Then she said she would calm down a bit by working on her legos...

That worked for about 10 minutes!! Then we packed up and took her home before the tribe could do any permanent damage!
We had a great holiday and a nice start to the new year! Happy 2012!!

Thanks to Mamaw Mary for the photos of New Year's Day!!!
