Maddie and I had a wonderful time last night at SPAC. We attended the American Girl night at the ballet last year and enjoyed it but this year was much better. I was able to get us a better seat that let us see better. We read the story of Coppelia so we understood what was happening on the stage. To top all of that off one of the principal dancers, Daniel Ulbricht, did a mini lesson or workshop on the lawn for the kids prior to the preformance. He taught them a variation of the Scottish jig performed by Swanilda in the second act. Maddie loved it. We took a picture with the other dancer assisting Daniel who was working with her side of the group. We had packed several things to keep us busy because last year the wait time seemed very long but the workshop made time fly. Maddie was so excited to see the Scottish jig on the stage. While we were waiting for the workshop to begin Maddie did a dance of her own with Elizabeth. My favorite part was when Maddie was clapping for a part that was particularly well done and she let out with a big "WOOOO HOOOO". Not a typical thing to hear at the ballet but it gave the people around us a chuckle....I was thankful we were on the lawn although that probably would've livened things up inside. We left after Act 2 because it was 9:30 and I knew we would pay the price today if we stayed any longer. Maddie was insistent that she was fine and couldn't understand why we had to leave for about 10 minutes of the ride home when suddenly everything went totally quiet in the back seat. I took a peek and she was sound asleep with Elizabeth snuggled on her lap. A sure sign of a good time. We will be going again next year and hopefully we will have as much fun!
