Science in the Summer

We just got home from a library program called Science in the Summer. We had a lot of fun. GE sponsors it with assistance from employees who volunteer. They had many experiments set up all around the room which we were then able to try at our own pace. Maddie's favorite was an air gun that knocked over empty soda cans. As usual she was able to astound the librarian by announcing that air pressure knocked the cans down. One of the volunteers helped her with static electricity to make her hair stand on end. We made 2 projects. One is a wheel that spins around so the colors become blurred and the other is a gravity man...a styrofoam man that stands up with the help of a weight on the end of a piece of wire. We played with tuning forks and sound waves. Last but not least, they had a microscope with lots of things to look at, a piece of crystal, a feather, flowers and Maddie's finger. After we left we decided that a good microscope has to go on our wish list. It was already there but it needs to move up a bit. It was a lot of fun and the price was right...free, well, Ok we already paid for it in our taxes.
