Memorial Day!

This has been a fun week. On Wednesday we finished off the majority of our books and said Good-Bye! to third grade. I cannot believe we are heading to fourth grade this fall! We finished with a bang because Wednesday was also the Scotia Memorial Day Parade which just happens to kick off one block from our house! All the day care kids stay for dinner with the parents and then we watch the parade together. Its so much fun and the kids love helping me set up and prepare things for their parents to arrive. This year I managed it all very well because I got everyone seated to have popsicles and the parade started! Yay!
What a send off for third grade.

Last weekend we went to the Gillette Shows carnival that was in Scotia for the week. We had fun but it was really, really hot and we didn't make it as long as Maddie would've liked.

Brian went on the bumper cars with Maddie but now she is big enough to drive herself! She needs some practice though....

So on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend we followed them up to the Halfmoon Town Hall and brought along Maddie's friend Norah. They had a great time and were braver about some rides than Maddie would've been on her own.

Today, Monday, Brian and I surprised Maddie with a big pink box.
This is going to be her summer box. I started out with a copy box that had a lid and then filled it with things.
This time around it had mostly fun things in it like a toy parachute to make and a fortune teller.
It also has the first Harry Potter Science Kit in it. This one is about nature and keeping a nature journal.
Then I put it items so she can keep a journal of all the fun things we do this summer. I told her its important to have good penmanship and grammar but beyond that she can do as she likes. I also printed some journal prompts which I put in a canning jar just in case she gets stuck and needs a good idea! I expect her to write in it every day. I also picked up some gel pens with colored ink but they didn't make the picture! The journal is from miro notebooks and looks really neat.
And then to her horror....there was a math book. This is called Math Minutes. Each page is a "minute" and has 10 different problems on it. There are 100 pages to complete and we are going to do one page every day. No way do we want to slide in math over the summer so its going to be practice, practice and more practice! As the weeks go along I will change the box up to match different theme units we will work on but the math and journal will be there always!

Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and that you took a minute out to remember why we have memorial day and all the wonderful freedoms we have just by living in this wonderful country!
