Airplanes!
You may have seen something in the news about the Space Shuttle (very cool picture on that site) being retired to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in NYC. This was on Brian's wish list of places to visit and now its at the top of his list! They had to make room on the Intrepid for the shuttle so they are removing several planes. Our local Air Museum in Glenville was lucky enough to get 3 of the planes. They moved them onto barges in NYC then up the Hudson and through the canal to the Mohawk River then removed them onto the "port" at Schenctady. When Maddie and I were returning from swim class we saw the planes at the port and there were lots of people there looking at them! So we buzzed home, picked Brian up and went back. What a really fun thing to do! While I don't like seeing the space program ending, or at least the flights into space ending, we did enjoy seeing the planes up close and personal!
The planes at the port...it seems very silly to call this space of dirt a port! ;0) Generally I think of a huge space next to an ocean with lots of ships, shipping containers, cranes and people!
Checking out a marine plane. Brian can tell you better the types of planes they are! All were from the cold war era though.
The crane that we assume unloaded the planes from the barges.
A British plane.
