On Thursday Mamaw Louise came to get Maddie for a slime lab at CMOST. This was an introduction to Chemistry and they had a great time.

Thanks for the fun afternoon Mamaw Louise!!
This morning we made a cabbage juice indicator for a science experiment we did later in the afternoon. This was fun but smelly! I put Maddie in charge and she managed making it very well...including cutting the cabbage leaves.
Not to worry, we made Maddie move back from the microwave!!
In the afternoon we took the indicator and did a test for acid (lemon juice) and bases (baking soda and water). Maddie had a blast. Especially making the lemon juice bright, brilliant pink.
Then we ended our day with a field trip to Colonial Williamsburg!! An early christmas present from Poppa Bill and Mamaw Mary. Well, we didn't actually go there. It was an Electronic Field Trip The live trip was on Thursday but Maddie already had her Slime trip scheduled and it was just too noisy in the morning to be able to concentrate. The content of the field trip was excellent. It consisted of kids dressed in period costume explaining how the constitution was ratified by the states. Adults in period costume were acting out parts also. We really enjoyed the question and answer part at the end. Benjamin Franklin, Patrick Henry and a historian were all together to answer questions sent in by the students. The best part was to watch Patrick Henry and Benjamin Franklin debate the issues as they were obviously on different sides. The other interesting theme that kept popping up came in the actual program. The kids kept telling us this was their inheritance, they need to learn all they can so they can continue this great country and, oh, by the way, its your responsibility too! What a great "field trip"...how many of those can you have while snuggled up in the living room with your Principal Dad? Thanks Poppa and Mamaw!!
